The National Security Council (NSC), a federal agency under the Prime Minister’s department clarified that the developer of the contact tracing app which is widely used in Malaysia, MySejahtera is in fact a Malaysian firm called KPISoft Sdn Bhd. KPISoft is a Malaysian firm that has made a name for itself internationally.

The statement was made after NSC received criticism from the Malaysian Association of Bumiputera ICT Industry and Entrepreneurs (NEF) that accused them of getting Western-based companies to develop a Covid-19 contact tracing app for the federal government rather than local tech firms.

KPISoft Sdn Bhd is a local company founded in 2010

KPISoft Sdn Bhd is a local company with the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) status. It was founded in 2010 and owned by two Malaysians – Anuar Rozhan and Raveenderan Ramamoothie. They are the biggest shareholders of the company to this day. As stated on KPISoft’s website, Raveenderan Ramamoothie is the founder and group CEO.

The local tech firm has offices in 15 countries worldwide

The company was developed under the guidance of the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC). KPISoft has grown to be a global company in the last 10 years with offices in 15 countries including the US, Dubai, Europe, Singapore, India and also the Asia Pacific.

Currently, they have four regional headquarters around the world as in the US, Singapore, Dubai and Vienna. Kuala Lumpur is its innovation and research & development centre. Their office in KL is located at Q Sentral, KL Sentral.

KPISoft has developed applications that are used by Fortune 500 listed companies

The company is among local tech firms that have made a name at the global level. They have developed applications that are used by Fortune 500 listed companies in multiple industries such as insurance, telecommunications, finance, mining and government.

Its high ranking staff are also Malaysians

Anuar Rozhan is the CEO of KPISoft Malaysia and Asia Pacific. Besides, its global chief financial officer and application development lead architect are also Malaysians who run their global operations from Malaysia.

The development of MySejahtera app began after MOH asked for assistance from the National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA)

To help the Ministry of Health (MOH) in contact tracing people during the pandemic, MOH requested assistance from Nacsa and the Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (Mampu) to assess an app developed by KPISoft Sdn Bhd that was to be made into a national-level app to monitor the spread of COVID-19 in Malaysia. Nacsa, NSC and Mampu found out that the app MySejahtera developed by KPISoft was the readiest for national implementation when compared to others offered to the government at that time.
