Boasting a long and proud history of innovation, service and value, JRsys Sdn Bhd helps clients across all industry sectors in providing software solutions to ensure the core business becomes more effective. As a leading engineering software solution, they harness the power of innovation and thrive on change – a necessary adaptation in the evolving digital age.
Under Jordan’s stewardship, JRsys Sdn Bhd successfully expanded its presence in the southern and northern parts of Malaysia. He has successfully brought in an increase of 20% in gross revenue yearly thus placing the company as the preeminent engineering software solution in the industry.
They also have been awarded numerous awards such as The Best Integrated IT Solutions Provider from Lang International Corporate Titan Awards in 2018. On top of that, SME100 Awards that they received in 2017 was the highest accolade for an SME to aspire for.
Strengthened by the past
Speaking with Jordan, it is easy not to notice that he is a determined person and not afraid to go beyond his capability and brave a new and unfamiliar path. “My background is actually Mechanical Engineer. I worked in an engineering company doing piping solutions. My job role was to calculate valves and design them.”
The best investment you can make is an investment in yourself. The more you learn, the more you earn.
He then found himself losing the spark and interest to do the job and yearning for a new job scope. Luckily, he knew how to use AutoCAD software and there’s an IT company looking for new people who can promote the software for the manufacturing industry.
“Without any hesitation, I joined an IT company as a Salesperson. I took a part-time course in Business Administrator to improve my business skill set. After a year, I took an advanced class in learning IT networking skills as in Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) and Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA). So that’s my story of how I shifted from engineer to sales and now owning my own software company (chuckles).”
JRsys, doing things differently
Headquartered in Damansara, JRsys was incorporated in 2009 focusing on providing software solutions in CAD, CAM, and CAE to the manufacturing and construction industry. Besides, they also provide training services to allow maximum profitability of their customers’ software investment.
The only way to stay ahead of the game is to offer something different to consumers.
JRsys was originally started in Johor Bahru. After three years of operation, he then moved to KL as the location is strategic for the business outlook. Talking about the difficulty to tackle the first step in opening the company, Jordan shared that it was really challenging given the very limited capital to build everything. Slowly, the company now earns RM7 million turnover per year.
Sustaining the business
Engineering software is one of the most influential, competitive and fast-evolving industries in the world – and as one of the players, you have to keep up with the market as technology waits for no one. Jordan expressed that JRsys is struggling to maintain customer loyalty.
“With the uncertain current economic landscape, all construction and engineering companies are taking precautionary measures on their capital spent. For us, it is not an easy task to maintain competitive pricing. Rather than lowering the cost, we ensure that we offer them a better service while focusing on delivering outstanding quality,” he emphasised.
You can’t define success. I believe success depends on the mission that you set.
JRsys also invests more in technicians in order to equip them with the new features of Autodesk that keep on updating from time to time. Furthermore, they are providing a training course that is open for public – college students to be precise. Jordan uttered that the training programme is essential for youth in learning technical skills to tackle the challenging employment environment and at the same time create apprentices for the company.
JRsys: A promising job prospect
When asked about his view on the current employment rate, Jordan expressed his thought that the current infrastructure projects leave a huge impact on the construction industry.
“Big-ticket infrastructure projects such as High-Speed Rail, East Coast Rail Link, as well as the MRT and MRT2, underground resulting in mass hiring candidates. But, with the change of the new government, construction companies have become more cautious in hiring a new headcount.
Instead of mass hiring, employers are now looking for talent who is an all-rounded person. I believe that it is essential for youth to master technical skills and don’t be calculative in time and money spent to gain knowledge. Now is not a time for you to be comfortable in your own zone – get out and be prepared for any drastic changes that might happen in the near future.”
Expanding possibilities
With a strong customer base in Peninsular, Jordan said the company will continue to expand its presence and considers opening a branch in East Malaysia. “We will explore more businesses in Asia which are Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam.” The next step for JRsys is to get listed in Initial Public Offering (IPO) in the next 5 years.
Today is a new day. Even if you were wrong yesterday, you can get it right today.
It wasn’t easy to achieve all these with all the hiccups. Building JRsys’s presence in the market taught him to always see things positively. He is grateful to have such a dedicated team. He shared that his motivation has always stemmed from his team. Having the privilege of working with first-rate individuals who are passionate, intellectual, creative and devoted is a blessing.
“But the utmost benefit for me as an entrepreneur is the freedom to pursue my dreams and make a difference has made the juice well worth the squeeze,” he ended.
