For Atikah, all the obstacles and challenges didn’t stop her from building her own cosmetic empire. In fact, all the experiences taught her to be stronger and don’t easily give up. Read the story of how the founder of Obsess Cosmetics tackles all the challenges.
1. From a banker to the founder of cosmetics
Hafizatul Atikah Mohd Fauzi or better known as Atikah didn’t expect to be a beautician let alone having her own cosmetic empire. Upon completing her studies at International Islamic University (IIUM), she then worked as a banker for a year.
2. Makeup service as her side income
She then moved to Jerantut, Pahang and started to have an interest in makeup and cosmetics. She slowly learned how to become a beautician because she knew she can earn more. Her makeup service income had surpassed her salary as a banker. So she then decided to quit her job and started her own business.
3. Obsess Cosmetics products sold within four days
Without any knowledge in marketing, she did everything on her own. Ideally, she started by selling cushion compact foundation with her husband and managed to sell 500 pieces within four days with a capital of RM10,000!
Later in 2015, she then saw the opportunity to sell lip matte as the market demand for the product was high. She grabbed the opportunity and produced her own lip matte that
4.She lost thousands of ringgit
When her business was at the peak, she then found herself on the lowest point. She was cheated by an agent who promised to help her create a new product. Due to that incident, she lost thousands of ringgit but it taught her to be selective in trusting people.
5. Helping single mothers to generate income
As a founder of Obsess Cosmetics, she wants to help women especially single mothers to generate income. Her principle is easy, she wants to help the society to fight all the fears and challenges and get out from the comfort zone. Superwoman in her view is a woman who is capable of doing everything for the sake of family and children.
6. Having a supportive husband
Atikah is lucky to have such a supportive husband. During the first period of starting the business, her husband helped her in catering clients’ needs, managing the supplies and etc. It was quite a struggle because they don’t have a team but they managed to pull it through. Her husband is her number one supporter and never stop encouraging her to move forward.
7. Getting more spotlight
Obsess Cosmetics is not only famous in Malaysia but also has secured their own fan base in Brunei, Singapore and Indonesia. Focusing on cushion compact foundation and lip matte, they have successfully garnered profit easily.
