Being a sole woman in an industry dominated by men is not easy as it is highly competitive. But for Yusliza Yussof, Managing Director of CT Wani Sdn Bhd she proved that it is not possible.
Born and bred in Felda Jengka 22, Pahang, the environment pushed her as an explorer kid to strive for a better future. She knew from the beginning what she wanted to do coupled with the motivation and positive words from her mother who helped her throughout the journey. “My mom always encourage me to attend entrepreneurship talks since I was young. She kept on pushing me to be my own boss and venture in business.”
In 2006, she graduated from UiTM Shah Alam in Civil Engineering and immediately applied for a contractor Class F license. “I started with a small project from the government and I managed to do it. So from that experience, I believed I can handle bigger projects then I dared myself to upgrade from RM 200,000 to RM 500,000 and even million worth projects.”
Yusliza Yussof started her own company with the name of CT Wani Enterprise, a class F contractor that handled small-size projects. Yet, she was trusted to manage various projects from the government and she slowly climbed the ladder of success.
From Class F to Class A Contractor
The Managing Director, Yusliza Yussof realised her capability to handle large-scale projects so she decided to upgrade from a Class F to G7, which is a Class A contractor. “I applied for the license and looking by my excellent experiences and capital, I was qualified to apply for a Class A contractor which means I skipped a few grades. That’s how we changed from CT Wani Enterprise to CT Wani Sdn Bhd, ” said Yusliza Yussof who has a strong determination in the construction industry.

She is indeed a strong woman judging from a lot of obstacles she had to endure. “For me, every project has it owns obstacles even it is just a small project. I have an experience where a small project worth only RM 10 million gave me such heavy loads. Two contractors stepped back and left the project hanging. So CT Wani acted as a rescuer, we are trusted to finish the project. We just need to do the finishing
The year 2014 was deemed to be the lowest point in her career. Handling two projects at the same time, it really tested her leadership skill and financial planning. “During that time, we were in the midst of establishing a team and the cash flow was really bad. I used
I won’t be here without my parents’ blessing. I’m thankful for their support throughout my career
She can vividly remember the black episode in her career where she had to face a lawsuit. “I closed a deal with another party to handle a project together. We had a mutual agreement on the profit margin but suddenly they demanded more than what we had agreed. So they filed a lawsuit and it affected my process to apply a fund from SME bank.
During rough times, Yusliza Yussof who is blessed for having such a supportive husband said that her husband never fails to help her. “My husband is really thoughtful and it helps me a lot in tackling my job better. Besides, without my parents’ blessing, I don’t think I’ll be here. They are the reason for me to do my best to keep the company running,” said Yusliza Yussof who has a 120 acres jackfruit farm in Pahang where she occasionally spends time there to recharge and relax.
