Surina Shukri is the new face of MDEC replacing Datuk Yasmin Mahmood. She spent almost 20 years bulding her career in multinational companies and startups in financial, energy and technology in the US and now back to Malaysia to start her new role as CEO of MDEC.
1. Excellent education background
Surina Shukri was raised in Klang Valley and attended high school at SMK Damansara Jaya before moving on to Mara Junior College, Taiping. She then further studies in The Wharton School and the University of Pennsylvania where she received dual degrees in Fianance and Systems Engineering. She
2. 17 years experiences in a leading global financial services firm
Her working experiences are amazing. She moved to New York in 2001 grabbing experience as an investment banker aat JP Morgan Chase & Co for 17 years.
From Vice President, Oil & Gas Investment Banking, she then appointed as Executive Director, Power, Utilities & Alternative Energy from 2009 to 2011. In 2014, she was appointed as Head of Strategy, Commercial Banking and continued serving for JP Morgan Chase & Co as Head of Strategy, managing Business Management & Innovation, Middle Market Banking & Specialised Industries.
3. Active player in blockchain
She founded SheNovation Ventures which is based in New York. SheNovation Ventures focuses heavily on the blockchain sector provising advocacy, education and thought leadership while promoting diversity.
Besides, Surina also is a part of the core team at Women 4 Blockchain, a group that aims to help build nurture the blockchain ecosystem by connecting and educating individuals about the future of technology.
4. Breast cancer advocate
She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and is now a strong advocate for breast cancer awareness. She actively participaate in runs and other campaigns to educate on and provide support for other breast cancer survivors and sufferers. She constantly post her battle against breast cancer on her Twitter account.
